5-HT1a
« on: March 25, 2017, 03:06:00 PM »
This is the blissful homeostasis receptor. When it is in perfect balance, it creates a perfect antidepressant blissful enjoyment of life. It secretes mu endorphins, oxytocin, and GABA, and lightly inhibits the NMDA receptor. It produces a hot-pink visual signature.

When it is deficient, it causes crippling depression, inability to enjoy reality, and suicidal thoughts and tendencies. When it is in excess, it shuts down oxytocin and endorphin production, and releases prolactin, creating overwhelming anger. This is part of serotonin syndrome, and since most entheogens (excepting DMT) are strong 5-HT1a agonists there is considerable risk that this will play into negative effects generated. However there may be unknown mechanisms by which other receptors regulate this phenomenon.

Pure ligands:
Limonene (orange oil) (likely also agonizes 5-HT4)

Warning: there is considerable risk of depression when withdrawing from a 5-HT1a agonist. I cannot take any oil containing limonene, because of the severity of the depression that results. However, others do not seem to report the same experience, so just be on the alert. I did not always experience this, so it is possible that the body's reaction can change, possibly hinging on dietary imbalances.
